The Neuroses and their Treatment
نویسنده
چکیده
Chapter 1 is devoted to the Bacitracins, a remarkable group of polypeptides containing the thiazoline nucleus. With the exception of Lyman C. Craig of the Rockefeller Institute, no one has done as much as Abraham to advance our knowledge of the nature of these substances, the structure of which is now, except for a few details, completely established. In Chapter 2 the author discusses the chemistry of the Cephalosporins, a chemically heterogeneous assembly of antibiotic substances elaborated by certain members of the Cephalosporium family. Cephalosporin P appears to be a steroid; Cephalosporin N is a penicillin containing a D-8-aminoadipyl grouping in the position occupied by the phenylacetyl group in the classical benzylpenicillin; Cephalosporin C is chemically related to the N compound but yields no penicillamine in acid hydrolysis. In Chapter 3 the relationships between structure and function of these and other antibiotics are discussed from the standpoint of modern biochemistry. This stimulating and informative book, in which the text is generously supported by bibliographical references and index, is recommended to the attention of all organic chemists who are in any way interested in the rapidly expanding field of antibiotics.

متن کاملHypnosis in Treatment of Neuroses Due to War and to Other Cavses
Although many authorities on war neuroses (Kardiner/ 1941; Miller, 1940) recommend the use of hypnosis in the treatment of early traumatic neuroses of war, one gains the impression from a survey of the recent literature on this subject that hypnosis is being little used in World War II. Instead, there appears to be an increasing tendency to use the barbiturate drugs, especially sodium amytal. I...

متن کاملThe "torpillage" neurologists of World War I: electric therapy to send hysterics back to the front.
The French neurologists and psychiatrists who were mobilized during the Great War were confronted with numerous soldiers with war neuroses, often with novel clinical manifestations such as camptocormia. They addressed hysteria and pithiatism according to concepts that had been formed before the war, and many doctors considered these soldiers to be malingerers. As a result, the use of aggressive...
